Reopen Everett’s two public pools for families and kids now

The Issue

Growing up in Everett, swimming was one of my favorite pastimes. Every summer, I loved going to the local pools at McCollum Park and Forest Park, enjoying the water, meeting new friends, and making wonderful memories. For many families in Everett, these public pools were more than just places to swim—they were community hubs, providing safe and accessible recreation for children and adults alike.

Unfortunately, due to recent budget cuts, both pools were permanently closed, leaving Everett without any community-run swimming facilities. The closest alternatives now require a lengthy drive to Snohomish, Lynnwood, or Bothell. Moreover, those looking for local options face the burden of expensive fees associated with private facilities like the YMCA. This has significantly limited access to affordable swimming opportunities, particularly affecting families that cannot afford the travel time, costs, or membership fees.

Public swimming pools offer more than just a place to swim; they support community health and well-being, teach children valuable water safety skills, and provide convenient and affordable recreation. They also play a crucial role in bringing together people from various backgrounds, fostering stronger community ties.

Many families and children in Everett miss having a local place to swim. Opening these pools again can provide a safe place for our kids to learn, play, and grow during the summer. With your support, we can urge city leaders to explore options to fund and manage the reopening of these public facilities. Possible solutions could include seeking grants, organizing community fundraisers, or establishing partnerships with local businesses and organizations to sustain operations.

Join me in advocating for the reopening of Everett's public pools. Let's ensure that every family and child has access to safe, fun, and affordable swimming options. Sign this petition to make a change now!
