Reopen Castlemilk Pool on Weekends

Reopen Castlemilk Pool on Weekends
The Issue
Working in a Castlemilk primary school, I see firsthand how vital swimming lessons are for our children. Yet, it's disheartening to witness these kids having limited opportunities to practice their skills, enjoy recreational swimming, and engage in exercise due to the restricted hours of our local pool. Castlemilk Swimming Pool is currently open only nine hours a week outside school hours, which severely limits access for families and individuals who wish to improve their health and well-being.
The ongoing issue of obesity and related health problems, including mental health conditions, is something we've all been made continually aware of. Encouraging regular physical activity, such as swimming, is crucial to combating these issues. The pandemic caused several disruptions, but as we navigate the post-COVID era, it's unfortunate that the pool has not returned to its previous operational schedule, and the health suite remains closed.
Having the pool open on weekends would provide incredible benefits to the community. It would not only promote physical health but also provide a safe and accessible environment for families to bond and for individuals to unwind and manage stress. These weekends could be an opportunity for community activities, swimming classes, and fun sessions that could engage people of all ages.
I urge the Glasgow City Council to consider the immense benefits of extending the operating hours of Castlemilk Swimming Pool, particularly by opening it on weekends. The council's support in this matter could significantly impact public health and community welfare by fostering a healthier environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Please sign this petition to advocate for a community resource that has the potential to positively transform the lives of Castlemilk residents. Your support is essential to bring about this necessary change that will benefit us all. Together, we can take steps towards a healthier, more active community.
