The Issue

Petition to the Office of Commissioner Rebeca Clay-Flores

Addressed to:
Office of Commissioner Clay-Flores, Precinct 1
Bexar County Commissioners Court

Dear Commissioner Clay-Flores,

We, the undersigned residents of Alamo Ranch and surrounding communities, are writing to formally request immediate action to address critical traffic and accessibility issues in our area, which significantly affect the daily lives and well-being of thousands of Bexar County residents.

Key Issues:

Reopening of Autumn Mist Street
Autumn Mist Street, a public road maintained by Bexar County, has been closed, effectively cutting off access between Alamo Ranch and North San Antonio Hills, as well as the North San Antonio Hills Bexar County Park. This closure has:

Prevented free and equitable travel for Alamo Ranch residents to and from the Hwy-1604 access road.

Denied access to public spaces funded by county taxes, such as the North San Antonio Hills Bexar County Park.

Increased traffic congestion on alternative routes and overburdened local roadways.

Since North San Antonio Hills is not a gated community and Autumn Mist is a public street funded by all Bexar County taxpayers, we believe its closure is unjust and disproportionately affects Alamo Ranch, one of the fastest-growing areas in the county.

Traffic Light Timing at Cottonwood Way and Wiseman Boulevard
The traffic light at Cottonwood Way and Wiseman Boulevard is poorly timed, prioritizing traffic along Wiseman Boulevard while neglecting residents attempting to turn or cross. Specifically:

The left-turn signal at Cottonwood Way remains green for only 3 seconds, leading to backups and delays.

During morning rush hours (e.g., 7:00–7:45 AM), the light frequently fails to allow adequate time for vehicles to cross Wiseman, leaving residents stranded in their own neighborhood.

These issues create unnecessary delays, increase safety risks, and further exacerbate traffic congestion for Alamo Ranch residents.

Inadequate Infrastructure for Population Growth
The population explosion in Alamo Ranch has far outpaced the development of necessary infrastructure. Residents face excessive delays and congestion due to insufficient roadways. To address these challenges, we recommend:

Extending Alamo Parkway to Wiseman Boulevard: Completing this extension would provide a critical alternate route for residents and reduce pressure on existing roads.

Developing Highway 151 to Loop 211: Expanding and completing this highway connection would alleviate congestion on current roadways and support continued population growth.

Our Requests:

Reopen Autumn Mist Street
Reopen Autumn Mist Street to public use, restoring access to North San Antonio Hills and the Bexar County Park and ensuring equitable access to public infrastructure funded by all county taxpayers.

Improve Traffic Light Timing at Cottonwood Way and Wiseman Boulevard
Adjust the timing of the traffic light to:

Extend the duration of the left-turn signal and provide sufficient time for vehicles to turn or cross.

Ensure smooth and safe traffic flow for residents during peak commute hours.

Provide Plans and Timelines for Infrastructure Improvements
Share with residents a clear and actionable plan, including timelines, for:

The extension of Alamo Parkway to Wiseman Boulevard.

The development and connection of Highway 151 to Loop 211.

Any other infrastructure projects that will address traffic concerns and support the area’s continued growth.

Conclusion

The closure of Autumn Mist Street, the mismanagement of the traffic light at Cottonwood Way and Wiseman Boulevard, and the lack of adequate infrastructure planning have created serious hardships for Alamo Ranch residents. These issues are increasing traffic congestion, safety risks, and frustrations among the community.

We respectfully request the Office of Commissioner Clay-Flores to prioritize these matters and collaborate with the Bexar County Public Works Department to provide tangible solutions and a timeline for implementation.

We appreciate your time and attention to this matter and look forward to your response.

Petition Update: Together, We Can Reopen Autumn Mist and Improve Traffic Flow!

Dear Supporters,

Thank you for standing with us in this vital effort to reopen Autumn Mist and advocate for better infrastructure in Alamo Ranch. Your voices are being heard! I am excited to share that K-SAT has expressed interest in covering our story and shedding light on the challenges our community faces. Stay tuned—I will share more details as they become available.

Here’s why your continued support matters:

The closure of Autumn Mist may have been initiated by the City of San Antonio, but it has profound consequences for all residents of Alamo Ranch and surrounding areas. This decision limits our access to public amenities, exacerbates traffic congestion, and unfairly prioritizes the interests of a single neighborhood over the greater good of our community.

Key points we’re fighting for:

Equitable Access for All:
Public roads and parks are meant to serve everyone—not just a select few. The closure of Autumn Mist denies Alamo Ranch residents access to North San Antonio Hills Park, a public space funded in part by our tax dollars.
Urgency for Bexar County Infrastructure Improvements:
Projects like the extension of Alamo Parkway and Alamo Ranch Parkway (ARP) are critical. Leaving these vital upgrades to developers without clear timelines is not acceptable. Our community cannot wait for overburdened roads to become impassable.
Advocacy for Long-Term Solutions:
While state projects like extending SH 151 to SH 211 may not be on TxDOT’s or Bexar County's immediate agenda, we must advocate for these improvements now to ensure they are prioritized in future plans. Together, we can push for the collaboration between the city, county, and state needed to address these pressing issues.
Community Unity:
This is about more than traffic—it’s about fairness and accessibility for all residents. The current situation favors one neighborhood at the expense of thousands, and that must change.

We need your help to amplify our message. Here’s what you can do today:

Share the Petition: Post it on your social media, send it to friends and family, and spread the word. Let’s build momentum!
Stay Engaged: Follow updates, and when the K-SAT story airs, share it widely to keep our cause in the public eye.

Together, we can make a difference. Thank you for your unwavering support—let’s keep the momentum going!
