The Issue

We, the residents of Lawrence Heights and concerned citizens of Toronto, are calling on the City of Toronto and all relevant government officials to take immediate action and reopen Baycrest Park, which has been closed for over two years.

Following the tragic mass shooting in our neighbourhood in June 2025, our community is grieving, and we are in urgent need of safe, accessible public spaces to gather, heal, and rebuild. Baycrest Park has historically served as one of the only accessible green spaces in our area, especially for youth and families during the summer months. Its prolonged closure is not just inconvenient—it is harmful to the well-being of our community.

Despite the ongoing revitalization projects in Lawrence Heights, essential amenities like Baycrest Park have been left behind. Promises have been made, yet the delays continue, and our children, elders, and families are the ones paying the price.

This is not just about a park—it’s about equity, healing, and dignity.

We are demanding that the City of Toronto and relevant authorities:

  1. Immediately reopen Baycrest Park to the public for safe summer use.
  2. Prioritize full restoration and investment into Baycrest Park and other delayed community spaces in Lawrence Heights.
  3. Include community members in the planning and timelines for all park and public space improvements in the area.

Public green spaces are not optional—they are a right. Let’s restore Baycrest Park, and give our community the space it needs to heal and thrive.

Sign this petition and stand with Lawrence Heights. Let’s demand action, not empty promises!
