Reopen and Properly Investigate the Unsolved Murder Case of My Son in Suffolk, Virginia

The Issue

The pain is indescribable and the grief unbearable; my son, a hardworking welder at the Shipyard in Suffolk, Virginia, was tragically killed on February 12th, 2023. He was my only child, an innocent soul with his life full of dreams and aspirations ahead of him. That fateful night, he was with his friends, those who knew him well, and then inexplicably, he fell out of a car, hit by two vehicles whose drivers brazenly fled the scene. Yet despite these horrifying circumstances, the Suffolk Police Department treated his death as inconsequential.

My son's friends were only interviewed twice, and I, his grieving mother, was never consulted to provide input into his character that may have informed the investigation. The police department deemed it unnecessary to release a press notice or extend the search to surrounding counties. They accepted the story at face value, without digging deep to seek justice for my son and our family.

This hasty conclusion to such a grave matter violates basic principles of diligent crime investigation. I am not asking for preferential treatment but a fair process that probes all possible angles and leads. My petition calls for his case to be reopened and re-investigated with the thoroughness it deserves. This oversight is alarming, indeed a signal that speaks volumes about the state of our justice system, which needs to be rectified.

Alongside our personal sorrow, this petition also symbolizes thousands of unheard stories and unsolved cases. In the USA alone, approximately 250,000 murder cases have gone cold since the 1980s (source: National Institute of Justice). The world should not and must not tolerate such grave injustices, and neither should the city of Suffolk.

Please sign this petition. Support our family's fight for justice. Urge the Suffolk Police Department to reopen and re-investigate the case of my son's horrific and untimely death with unbiased professionalism and due diligence. We need your voice to echo our plea for justice: for my son, and other victims whose cases remain unsolved.
