Reopen a Police Station on Uxbridge Road to Deter Crime in Shepherds Bush

Reopen a Police Station on Uxbridge Road to Deter Crime in Shepherds Bush
The Issue
As a resident who moved to Shepherds Bush just over a year ago, I was excited about my new home. However, the significant crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB) has made me feel like an outsider in my own neighbourhood. Local residents and shopkeepers share this sentiment, attributing the unusually high level of crime primarily to the closure of the police station on Uxbridge Road and less vigilant monitoring.
The issues are several -
- rampant drug dealing and addiction with usage and dealing taking place openly in our streets and with addicts intimidating passers-by;
- graffiti defacing almost every shop on Uxbridge road with little point in cleaning it up because there are not enough patrols to deter this behaviour permanently;
- regular incidents of shop breakins, which are higher than any other year according to long-standing shop owners
- car break-ins or car damage happening even in broad daylight;
- parcel thefts from local streets
- bicycle theft from our local streets
These problems are not just statistics but daily realities that impact our quality of life.
The correlation between police presence and deterrence of crime is well-documented (source: Crime Prevention Research Review). The reopening of a police station on Uxbridge road will serve as a deterrent for criminals while providing reassurance for law-abiding citizens.
We cannot stand by while our community suffers. We urge authorities to reopen the police station on Uxbridge Road, restore safety measures around Shepherds Bush and take immediate action against these criminal activities plaguing our neighbourhood. The stock response by the Council is that they will "increase patrols" but these increased patrols are not helping. Please sign this petition if you believe in making Shepherds Bush safe again for all its residents.
