Appoint a protection officer for women suffering from domestic violence in Kanpur rural district.
The Issue
Renu was abused, beaten repeatedly and thrown out of her house by her in laws. She has a six-month old baby.
Her younger sister Aarti’ dreams of finishing her PhD were cut short when Renu and her child was forced to leave their house.
Aarti wanted to fight for her sister. But she soon realised that her district doesn’t have a single protection officer.
Aarti and Renu are not alone. There are thousands of women in Kanpur rural district who are victims of domestic violence and abuse.
That’s why, Breakthrough started this petition, asking Renuka Kumar, Princiapl Secretary, women's welfare department of Uttar Pradesh to appoint a protection officer for the Kanpur rural district. Sign our petition and share it with your family and friends.
The Domestic Violence Act makes it mandatory to have a Protection Officer in every district. The Protection Officer helps domestic abuse victims in filing complaints, legal processes and even medical aid and counseling.
In Uttar Pradesh, none of the districts have a dedicated protection officer. Many government officials are piled on with the work of a protection officer as an additional responsiblity. With added burden, domestic violence cases take a back seat.
Kanpur district does not have a protection officer for more than a year now. This is clear violation of the law.
If thousands of people sign our petition, we can force the government to appoint a protection officer for thousands of women suffering in Kanpur. Sign our petition and share it with your family and friends.
Domestic violence has killed thousands of women in our country. The law has been in place but nothing will change unless the authorities execute it. The government must make it easy for every woman to report and stand up against such violence.
Sign our petition and share it with your family and friends. We must all stand together in this fight against Domestic violence.
