Renovate the Dennis R. Timbrell Resource Centre!
The Issue
The Dennis R. Timbrell Resource Centre, historically known as the Flemingdon Resource Centre, has served the Flemingdon Park community for nearly 45 years. Throughout its lifespan, it has suffered physical and structural degradation, resulting in less-than-ideal conditions and decreased usability of the space.
Facility users are frustrated by their unaddressed and dismissed concerns. Many residents can attest to the lack of funding, the closure of certain amenities within the building, and other issues, frequently citing insufficient repairs.
The city itself acknowledges that the centre is aging and falls short on accessibility. (City of Toronto,, 2019, C 13).
While a new centre is slated for completion in 2029, the current centre - many times smaller than the new one - requires critical care for it to be sustainable amid intensification just a short walk from Dennis R. Timbrell R.C.
Our community deserves better—a safe, modern, clean, and inviting space where innovation and recreation can thrive. We urge local politicians and relevant City staff to acknowledge and act upon our demands: to revitalize the centre.
See how merely a paint job and tiling can make all the difference in enhancing community morale and the inviting nature of the space:
