The Issue

Hero Elementary first premiered on PBS KIDS on June 1, 2020, introducing young viewers to a school where budding superheroes learn to use their innate abilities alongside scientific inquiry. The show’s 40-episode first season concluded with its series finale, “The Sweet Smell of Success,” airing on January 4, 2022. This finale ending did not make sense for some of the viewers. Created by Sesame Street veterans Carol-Lynn Parente and Christine Ferraro and co-produced by Twin Cities PBS and Portfolio Entertainment, Hero Elementary was built on the dual pillars of “superpowers of science” and social-emotional learning.

The narrative follows the diverse Sparks’ Crew—Lucita Sky (flight), AJ Gadgets (thought projection and gadget-making), Sara Snap (super strength and teleportation), and Benny Bubbles (bubble creation)—all guided by their enthusiastic teacher, Mr. Sparks. Each adventure blends action and empathy as the team tackles problems by observing, predicting, and experimenting—mirroring real-world STEM practices.

Why We Need Season 2

Resolve the Cliffhanger & Expand the Universe
Fans of all ages were left eager for more when Season 1 closed on a high-stakes, emotional note. A second season would let us dive deeper into new storylines and character growth.
Meet New Villains & Powers
We want to face off against powerful new antagonists—Alnico Alex, Earthquake Earl, and Soccer Skylar—whose challenges will push the Sparks’ Crew to master both their original “superpowers of science” and exciting elemental abilities (Lucita: air; Benny: water; AJ: fire; Sara: earth).
Celebrate Character Growth & Heritage
Imagine Sara Snap’s pigtails growing dramatically as she unlocks her earth power, or a special Asian Heritage episode revealing her parents’ superhero origins. These cultural and personal backstories enrich the show’s diversity.
Build on Proven Educational Models
Like fellow PBS KIDS hits Wild Kratts, WordGirl, and Odd Squad, Hero Elementary combines memorable villains with curriculum-aligned STEM learning in a fun, engaging environment.
Secure Strong Support for Creators
We call on PBS KIDS, Twin Cities PBS, Portfolio Entertainment, and co-creators Carol-Lynn Parente & Christine Ferraro to partner with sponsors—McCormick’s, Kiddie Academy, Project Lead The Way, Adventure Academy—to ensure the resources needed for top-quality animation, voice talent, and writing.
Our Call to Action
With millions of viewers tuning in to Hero Elementary’s science-powered lessons in 2020 alone, the series has proven its value as both entertainment and a learning tool. Now, we unite—young fans, parents, educators, and community advocates—to urge PBS KIDS and the Department of Education’s Ready to Learn program to green-light Season 2. Also sign this up and chip in some money to get the PBS fundings back.

Sign this petition to bring back the Sparks’ Crew for 48-50 thrilling episodes plus two one-hour specials, armed with new powers, unforgettable outfits, and rich storylines that deepen both science learning and emotional growth!
