Renault-Nissan engine failure alert ...

The Issue

Thousands of users of vehicles equipped with Renault and Nissan 1.2 petrol engines (TCe and DIG-T) produced from 2012 to 2018 have been facing failures for months, leading to premature replacement of the engine.

Although manufacturers have been aware of design flaws since 2015 (Renault Actis Solution 10575 and Nissan Technical Bulletin EM 15/05 notes), no official recall has ever taken place, manufacturers taking refuge behind the fact that, according to their statements : "Overconsumption of oil does not in any way affect the safety of our products or our customers".

However, these "overconsumption of oil" have already led to dozens of engine failures at full speed on the highway !

With this letter, we once again alert the competent authorities to the risks linked to these failures.

The users are undoubtedly subject to prejudice of anxiety, due to the mechanical incidents attributable to the design of these engines, but also daily distressed by the fact just as incontestable, that despite their driving experiences, they are not trained to manage a sudden loss of traction in their vehicle following an abrupt stop of an engine and especially the consequences which may result therefrom.

Will we have to wait for a drama, accompanied by an inquisitive media campaign?

How do the manufacturers intend to take care of all the engines that will break following the design flaws revealed by the French consumer association UFC Que Choisir in May 2019 in the months and years to come?

French medias l'Argus, Auto Plus, Daciattitude, Fiches-Auto and many others publicly relayed these failures but the builders continue to act as if nothing had happened.

The manufacturers hide behind certain factors to justify their support (or their refusal) such as; vehicle age, mileage and maintenance conditions. Design faults are not included in their scale since they do not officially recognize them.

The average annual taxiing is only 9,000 km (source CNPA / France) per year for petrol vehicles, the average observed breakage on these engines is around 62,000 km. The majority of the engines concerned could therefore be affected beyond the 6 years of their first entry into service. There is therefore still time to react.

To our elected representatives, we ask to do everything in their power so that the government  compels manufacturers to react in the interest of consumers whose responsibility must now be officially recognized.

Thank you for signing and sharing this petition, we are all potentially affected by these failures!

The same petition has already gathered more than 11,000 signatories in France (January 17, 2020).
