It's only a minor setback in the fight to co-name W. 132nd Steet “William Donnell Porter Way.” Manhattan Community Board 10 (CB 10) said Donnell didn’t do enough to be honored. And, even though other Community Boards in Manhattan have co-named streets after Hispanic (CB 9) and Caucasian children (CB 7), CB 10 (i.e., a predominately Black community and board) reserve the right to street co-naming for individuals that demonstrate extraordinary and highly acclaimed accomplishments or involvement linked to CB 10 (i.e., in #HARLEM).

THE PORTER FAMILY is not the first “Black Family” to be denied a street co-name for a Black child at CB10. Losing a child is already devastating for the family, so to be told your child hasn't contributed enough to the community and is not worthy of being a proposed honoree of a Street co-name is cruel.

If you know a Black family in Harlem who lost a Black child and denied a street co-name at CB 10, email us at  williamdonnellporterproject@gmail.com.
