Growing up near the scenic Douglas Lake in eastern Tennessee, I've witnessed firsthand the profound impact Dolly Parton has had on our community and beyond. Her music, philanthropy, and dedication to public service have made her a beloved figure not just in Tennessee but around the world. For decades, Dolly has been a beacon of inspiration, promoting literacy, supporting local economies, and providing assistance during times of crisis.

Dolly's contributions are numerous and exemplary. She founded the Imagination Library, which has donated over 150 million books to children globally, fostering a love for reading and learning. Locally, she has supported countless ventures, including donations to help victims affected by the devastating Gatlinburg wildfires in 2016. Her Dollywood Foundation and DreamMore Resort have provided jobs and economic stability to thousands in our area, strengthening our community fabric.

Given her deep roots and lasting influence here, it's fitting to honor Dolly Parton by renaming the I-40 bridge over Douglas Lake as The Dolly Parton Memorial Bridge. This gesture would not only recognize Dolly's altruism and contributions but also serve as a lasting tribute to her enduring legacy.

Renaming this bridge is a concrete and lasting way to honor someone who has given so much of herself to enrich the lives of others. It would be a symbolic and meaningful recognition of her impact, encouraging future generations to embrace her values of compassion and community service.
