As a passionate advocate for mythological representation in our celestial bodies, I've noticed an inconsistency that needs rectifying. The dwarf planets in our solar system are named after various gods from different mythologies, with two exceptions - Ceres and Eris, both of which are named after Greek gods. This petition seeks to rename the dwarf planet Eris to Erra, aligning it with a deity from Mesopotamian mythology instead.

The naming of celestial bodies is a tradition that dates back centuries and serves as an homage to the rich tapestry of world mythologies. However, this tradition has not been consistently upheld. For instance, Pluto is named after the Roman god of the underworld while Haumea derives its name from Hawaiian mythology. Yet Eris remains tied solely to Greek mythology.

Erra was a god in Mesopotamian mythology associated with war and pestilence who would bring balance by representing another ancient civilization's deities among our stars. By renaming Eris to Erra we can honor this tradition and ensure all mythologies have their place in the sunlight.
