As a community, our lives were profoundly touched by Sam Mcwoodson - a role model, a mentor, and an exceptional educator. His service as a physical education teacher for North Miami Middle School, a wrestling coach for the same institution, and an assistant wrestling coach for North Miami Senior High School made him a beloved figure in our community. Coach Mcwoodson had the gift to inspire and usher many youths into responsible adulthood, including many of us who had the privilege to be under his tutelage.

We believe recognition of his extraordinary contribution is long overdue. Therefore, we propose to name the old North Miami High gymnasium after him, as a fitting tribute to his remarkable life and work. Sam Mcwoodson was not just an educator; he was the heart and soul of North Miami, shaping the community in innumerable ways.

On behalf of the thousands of students whose lives were positively influenced by Coach Mcwoodson, we urge the City of North Miami & the Miami Dade Public School District to recognize his impact. Adequate honor can be bestowed by naming the old North Miami High gymnasium after him, preserving his legacy, and inspiring future generations.
