The Issue

A devastating traffic accident critically injured Niyell L. McCrorey, a vibrant 13-year-old teenage girl. On October 24th, 2024 at approximately 1:47pm while returning home from school Niyell was hit by an SUV nearby the corner of Manhattan Avenue & West 110th street leading to West 109th. She was hit by the SUV while crossing the street to catch the MTA M110 bus home. Despite fighting bravely in Columbia Presbyterian's PICU unit for 7 days, unfortunately she was unable to recover from her traumatic brain injury, and tragically passed away November 1, 2024.

This young teenager was more than a statistic. Niyell brought immense joy to her school, her family, and her New York City community. She was known for her bright talent, her strong ambition, and most of all, her joy and kindness. These are the treasured memories that loved ones hold onto, and the legacy she leaves behind.

This petition is much more than a call to rename a street. It is a plea to etch Niyell's name into the very fabric of the city she loved, serving as a reminder of the precious life taken too soon. We urge city authorities to rename the corner of Manhattan Avenue & West 110th-109th Street to "Niyell L. McCrorey's Way."

In honor and tribute to her legacy which impacted many others, we are pushing this petition to have the street renamed. By signing the petition it will help ensure that Niyell L. McCrorey will be remembered not only for her talent and ambition but for the joy and kindness she spread to all who knew her within the communities of New York City.

Please lend your name in support of this heartfelt cause and help ensure that the driving spirit, ambition, and kindness of Niyell L. McCrorey continues to be a beacon in her beloved New York City. Sign the petition today.
