Irene Fitzgerald spent 83 tireless years caring for our community in North End, Halifax, Nova Scotia. She poured her love into everyone she met. A veritable pillar of our community, Irene held a unique place in our hearts. Her fondness for gardening was more than a hobby. It was a testament to her love for life, reflected in the care she took of the park she occupied for 83 long years.

In honor of her selfless service and ceaseless love for our community, we propose to rename Glebe Street Parkette to Irene Fitzgerald Memorial Park. A memorial park in her name would provide a fitting tribute to a woman who meant so much to us.

We also propose the establishment of a community garden and green space within the park. By doing this, we can create a space that not only embodies the spirit of Irene's love for gardening but also serves as a space that everyone can use and benefit from.

The incredible influence Irene had on our community cannot be overstated. In recognition of her contributions, this renaming coupled with the creation of a community garden will serve as a constant reminder of the love she spread amongst us all.
