Birmingham, Alabama backs Ozzy Airport?
Hello friends!
This past week I was in Birmingham, Alabama where I asked the local city council if they would support Birmingham, UK in our endeavour. You can read and watch more about that here!
Their local airport was renamed after civil rights leader Rev. Shuttlesworth in 2008 - a move that happened with minimum fuss and no negative impact on development. More on that in a second..
Meanhile, it’s now been a year since Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s final Back To The Beginning Show, at Villa Park in Birmingham - maybe the greatest heavy metal show of all-time.
The show also raised an insane amount of money for three incredible charities - and tourism in the West Midlands went through the roof.
Without a doubt, renaming our International airport after Ozzy Osbourne would increase local tourism - it really is a shame that the CEO of Birmingham Airport is currently insisting the name ‘Birmingham Airport’ is too ‘important for development’
I don’t doubt that he believes this, but it does seem to be an odd position to take when over 350 airports around the world are named after people. And even if this was true, ‘Birmingham Ozzy Osbourne Airport’ keeps everyone happy.
In any case, there’s a lot happening in Birmingham around the year anniversary of BTTB. There’s a new exhibit at Grand Central station, and Ozzy’s throne from the final show has been added to the ‘Ozzy Osbourne: Working Class Hero’ exhibit at Birmingham Museum! Read more here.
