Rename 'Alcoholism' to 'Gentleman's Ambition'

Rename 'Alcoholism' to 'Gentleman's Ambition'
The Issue
I recently found myself in a situation where, after finishing a beer, I immediately wanted another one. Once I start drinking, it becomes very difficult for me to stop. This is not an isolated incident but rather a recurring pattern. Is there a term for this? If not, I propose the term "gentleman's ambition".
The current term used to describe this condition is 'alcoholism', which carries with it negative connotations and stigma that can discourage individuals from seeking help or acknowledging their struggle. By changing the terminology to something less stigmatizing like "gentleman's ambition", we could potentially encourage more open conversations about alcohol consumption and its effects.
According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), nearly 14 million adults in the United States suffer from some form of alcohol use disorder (AUD). Yet only about 7.9% of these individuals receive treatment in any given year due to fear of judgment or misunderstanding.
By adopting new terminology such as "gentleman's ambition", we can foster an environment where those struggling with AUD feel more comfortable seeking help without fear of being judged or misunderstood.
Please sign this petition if you believe that changing our language around alcohol use can contribute towards reducing stigma and encouraging more people to seek help when they need it.
