Remove Truist Signage From Top of 303 Peachtree St (Truist Plaza)

The Issue

Truist Plaza, formerly Suntrust Plaza, is the second tallest building in Atlanta and an iconic work of art by the late architect John Portman. Its crown has been an integral part of Atlanta's skyline for many years, anchoring the downtown skyline and lending it beauty and grace.

That crown, however, has been marred by the recent Truist signage that has been put up. The bulky name and logo cover up the integral components of the skyscraper's design that make it unique and recognizable. This petition is to call for the signage to be removed or redesigned in such a way that the original aesthetic of the skyscraper is preserved.

Architecture is a defining aspect of a city. It is important to have pride in the buildings that make up our skylines and dominate our field of vision. Architecture has the power to reflect the values of a city and dictate how a space interacts with its citizens. Now is the time to show how important our architecture is to us. We need to show that we value the visual aesthetic of downtown and not just the corporate presence. Our architecture is not a company's ad space. Paris would never allow corporate logos on the Eiffel Tower, nor New York signs on top of the Empire State Building. Why then should we accept our buildings to be sub-par and allow the appearance of our collective skyline to be marred? I call on all Atlantans to take a stand against this injustice that has befallen an important piece of architecture of our bourgeoning skyline.
