Remove trees from roadsides

Remove trees from roadsides
The Issue
Driving down Business 40 should have been just another ordinary drive for me and my mom. But instead, a tree fell on us, causing severe injuries. Our car, a Tahoe, was crushed beyond recognition, totaling over $40,000 in damages. My face was bloodied, and the bruising in our stomachs made every movement painful. The trauma of that day stays with us, and I don't want anyone else to experience such a horrifying incident.
Trees close to roadways pose a serious risk to drivers, acting as potential hazards during storms, high winds, or even on their own through natural decay. The risk isn't limited to one specific area; it's a nationwide concern. According to the Federal Highway Administration, there are approximately 5.4 million crashes occurring annually in the United States, and many involve roadside hazards such as trees. Even though trees play an important role in our ecosystem, they should not compromise human safety.
Implementing a national rule to remove trees within 50 feet of roadways could save countless lives and prevent future tragedies. By removing these potential threats, we can provide a safer driving environment for everyone. Other options, such as planting trees further from roads or using safer vegetation alternatives that don’t grow to hazardous heights, could balance ecological concerns while ensuring road safety.
I urge the federal government, the Department of Transportation, and local road management authorities to take immediate action. Establish guidelines that mandate the removal of trees dangerously close to roads. Support infrastructure adjustments and landscaping practices that consider the safety of travelers first without neglecting environmental responsibilities.
Join me in calling for safer roadways by signing this petition. Let's prevent incidents before they occur and create road conditions that protect every motorist, biker, and pedestrian. Your signature can be the voice against potentially deadly roadside conditions and will help prompt action towards nationwide safer road initiatives.
