Remove the Superintendent of Jasper County Schools, Immediately!!!!
The Issue
The 2020-2021 school year was very difficult for our children due to COVID-19. Many of them fell far behind in their academics while struggling to do school virtually.
Understanding that our children struggled severely during the pandemic we could only hope that the Jasper County School District leaders would be prepared to catch our students up to speed. But that didn't happen. Our children had to endure another year of uncertainty, inconsistency, and instability.
The 2021-2022 school year started off with a severe bus driver shortage. An issue that the Jasper County School District was fully aware of during the summer of 2021. Jasper County School District issued a letter to bus drivers on June 4, 2021, after drivers asked for a pay raise. In the letter, the bus drivers were advised that the "bus driving positions will be eliminated" and "replaced with bus driver paraprofessional" jobs effective at the end of that month. In another letter from the district, officials said that "the best way to accomplish this increase would be to modify duties".
Parents have lost their jobs, children are late to school, children are arriving home late at night from school, children are standing waiting for a bus to come to pick them up, and sometimes a bus never shows up. Our children continue to fall behind in their academics.
In addition to the bus driver shortage, our children are also suffering from teacher shortages. This creates an environment not only where our children cannot learn, but also where there is not adequate coverage to maintain a safe environment for our students.
Jasper County School District fails to maintain communication with the parents and the community. Decisions regarding year-round school and the de-consolidation of our schools were all made without sufficient feedback from parents.
Our children deserve better leadership. We are demanding that the current superintendent for Jasper County School District is relieved from her duties as superintendent, IMMEDIATELY, and that the Jasper County School Board be intentional about involving the community in their search for a new superintendent.
