Remove the MTA bus resting stop from 285 St Nicholas Avenue

Remove the MTA bus resting stop from 285 St Nicholas Avenue
The Issue
For years, 285 St Nicholas Avenue in New York City has been a serene block where residents, including families and seniors, could go about their daily lives with relative ease. However, the peace and convenience of our block have been disrupted by the establishment of a bus resting stop directly in front of our residential building. The presence of this layover zone has led to the elimination of crucial parking spaces, particularly affecting those with disabilities.
Parking is a critical issue in our community, especially for our disabled residents who rely on these spaces for accessibility. The removal of designated parking spots has caused undue hardship, impacting the ability of residents to carry out daily tasks comfortably and diminishing their quality of life. Additionally, the constant presence of idling buses is contributing to noise pollution and compromising the safety and tranquility of our neighborhood.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) have inadvertently made it more challenging for us to access our homes easily. The placement of a bus resting stop in front of our building is not necessary and does not serve the interests of our community. It is imperative that the MTA, NYC DOT, alongside our Community Board and City Council Member, recognize the detrimental impact this decision has on our residents and seek to rectify this matter immediately.
A feasible solution is to relocate the bus resting stop to a more suitable location that does not interfere with residential living areas. We urge our local government and relevant authorities to consider alternative sites for the bus layover that prioritizes both transit efficiency and residential peace. By reassessing the position of this stop, we can work towards restoring the lost parking spaces for our community, ensuring better accessibility for everyone involved.
We call on the support of our community members, allies throughout New York City, and all concerned citizens to join us in petitioning for the removal of the MTA Bus Resting Stop from our residential block. Sign this petition to help restore our neighborhood's harmony and accessibility for all, especially those who need it the most.
