The Issue
As a concerned parent with two children in the Miami-Dade Public School system, I have observed the struggles they face due to the mandatory completion of IReady minutes each week. Although both of my children excel academically and maintain good grades, the overwhelming amount of homework, coupled with the additional requirement of IReady, is leading to late nights and stressed weekends. It is evident that this program neither aligns with their learning needs nor keeps them engaged.
The requirement to complete IReady impacts students from Kindergarten through 8th grade without any concrete evidence showing that it enhances learning outcomes or improves test scores. In fact, there is an ongoing lawsuit regarding the use of personal information by IReady, yet the Miami-Dade School District continues to mandate its usage. This requirement seems unnecessary and counterproductive, adding to an already heavy workload for our young students.
In the absence of proven educational value, it is vital to reconsider and remove the requirement for IReady minutes. Students should be focusing on learning methods that are beneficial and relevant to their individual needs, rather than fulfilling quota-based tasks that contribute to stress and burnout.
I urge the Miami-Dade School District to acknowledge the lack of positive data supporting IReady and to prioritize the well-being and appropriate educational development of our students. Let us foster an environment where learning is engaging and meaningful, without imposing additional burdens that distract from genuine educational progress.
Join me in calling for the removal of IReady requirements. It is time for change in our education system that respects both the time and needs of our children. Please sign this petition and support a future where our children's education is based on what truly works for them.
