The Issue

A telecommunications structure was recently installed directly in front of a residential home in our neighborhood, within a residentially zoned area, without prior notice or meaningful opportunity for community input. This installation has caused significant concern among nearby residents and has noticeably altered the character, aesthetics, and livability of our neighborhood.

According to County Land Development Code Section 30.6.7 – Communication Antennas/Towers, the intent of the code is to protect residential areas from adverse impacts, minimize visual disruption, and ensure that communication towers are placed only when appropriate controls, siting considerations, and regulatory requirements are met. The code further emphasizes the importance of thoughtful design, landscape screening, and full consideration of the public’s property rights within public rights-of-way.

Additionally, Part 5 – Permitted Uses by Zoning District (Section 30.5.1.1, Table 5.2 – Land Use) does not permit cell tower construction within residential zoning districts without proper approvals or special exemptions. Residents are concerned that this installation may not align with these requirements and that any exemptions granted were done without adequate transparency or community awareness.

The placement of this structure directly in front of homes has created a strong visual impact, diminished curb appeal, and raised concerns about potential effects on property values. For many families, their home represents their most significant financial investment, and infrastructure decisions of this magnitude should not be made without careful siting, open communication, and consideration of less disruptive alternatives.

Our community is not opposed to technological progress or improved connectivity. However, we believe such progress must be implemented lawfully, transparently, and with full consideration of residential zoning protections and neighborhood character, as outlined in the County’s own development codes.

We respectfully request that the City/County Planning Department and appropriate decision-makers:

  • Review whether this installation complies with all applicable zoning and land development regulations
  • Confirm whether proper notice and approvals were obtained
  • Evaluate whether alternative locations or design mitigation measures are available
  • Consider relocation of the structure to a less intrusive location consistent with residential zoning standards

We ask that this matter be formally reviewed and that residents be included in any future decisions impacting our neighborhood.
