Remove the 104-hour overtime cap for airline ramp personnel

Remove the 104-hour overtime cap for airline ramp personnel
The Issue
I am currently employed as a station attendant for Air Canada, and the 104-hour overtime cap imposed on ramp personnel like myself is severely debilitating in terms of our earning potential. It's not just a matter of losing extra money; it's about limiting our ability to support our families and plan for our futures. Many of us rely on overtime to make ends meet and maintain a reasonable standard of living.
The aviation industry's dynamic nature demands flexibility and adaptability, especially in roles such as ours. During peak travel times, airlines often require more manpower on the ground to ensure smooth operations and customer satisfaction.
According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the aviation industry is expected to grow substantially, demanding more workforce in ground handling positions. However, if restrictive policies like this overtime cap are kept in place, attracting and retaining skilled workers will become an even greater challenge.
Removing the overtime cap would not only bolster the financial stability and well-being of workers but also enhance the operational efficiency of airlines by ensuring a motivated team. With the ever-increasing number of travelers, it is imperative to have a flexible work structure that supports both employee needs and industry demands.
We urge the Canadian Labor Congress and airline industry decision-makers to reconsider this restrictive policy and align with a more progressive and supportive approach to employee scheduling.
By signing this petition, you are supporting a fairer work environment for ramp personnel, enabling them to realize their full potential both professionally and personally. Please join us in calling for a change that benefits workers, airlines, and travelers alike.
