Remove Superintendent Handerhan, McCann, & Smyth for Endangering Wall Twp. Students

Remove Superintendent Handerhan, McCann, & Smyth for Endangering Wall Twp. Students
The Issue
Our kids are in danger. As a concerned parent within the Wall Township School District, I am alarmed by Superintendent Tracy Handerhan's and the entire BOE including McCann’s, and Smyth’s recent decisions that have drastically altered the educational landscape for our children. It is our responsibility to ensure a safe and comprehensive educational environment for our kids, and these changes threaten their well-being.
Under Superintendent Handerhan's administration, crucial components of the curriculum, including gym classes being shortened from 3 days to 2 days (we had 5 gym days when I was in wall schools) music, and technology, have been removed or significantly reduced, and only 2 minutes will be given to exit school to the bus. These changes not only diminish the quality of education but also deprive students of opportunities to explore their interests and develop essential skills. Gym classes are vital for physical health, music enriches cultural understanding, and technology education prepares our children for the future.
Moreover, the decision to remove part-time lunch aides without assuring a plan to maintain monitoring jeopardizes student safety during a crucial part of the school day. Lunch periods can be chaotic, and the presence of adequate supervisory staff is essential to prevent accidents and bullying and to ensure our children are safe.
Research clearly shows that comprehensive educational programs with components like physical education and arts lead to better student outcomes. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, regular physical activity in school improves students' attention, memory, and behavior. By cutting these essential classes and support staff, we are doing a disservice to our children's education and safety.
The Wall Township community deserves leadership that prioritizes the well-being and development of its students. Superintendent Handerhan's current policies do not reflect the community's values and expectations for its school district.
It is time for us to take a stand and demand an educational environment where our children can thrive safely and holistically. I urge you to join me in calling for the immediate removal of Superintendent Tracy Handerhan. This will pave the way for new leadership that aligns with the needs and safety of Wall Township students.
