Having served this nation both in uniform and through public service, I am deeply troubled by the current conduct of our legislative leadership. Speaker Mike Johnson has not only neglected his cardinal duty to guide the House of Representatives but has also failed to uphold the trust bestowed upon him by the American people.

One glaring example is his inability to pass an annual budget, thrusting the nation perilously close to government shutdowns repeatedly. This reckless oversight jeopardizes the well-being of working families, veterans, and federal employees—communities that rely heavily on a stable and operational government. Every looming threat of shutdown exacerbates uncertainty and anxiety in households across the country.

Leadership is predicated on accountability and tangible action. Unfortunately, Speaker Johnson's tenure has been characterized by inaction and empty promises, not the decisive leadership that Americans deserve. By not fulfilling his constitutional mandate to ensure a functioning government, he effectively abdicated his responsibilities. Such failures should never be without consequence.

In this light, it becomes imperative that we move to declare the office of the Speaker vacant for the 119th Congress. Our representatives must believe once again in an honest and operational government, upheld by the leaders we entrust.
