Remove Restrictive and Outdated Swale Parking Ordinance

Remove Restrictive and Outdated Swale Parking Ordinance
The Issue
Over four decades ago, an ordinance was established which inherently made parking on swale areas in our community a violation. However, we find today that this rule is not only outdated, but also causes an unacceptable hardship for our residents. Our community members who own more than one vehicle or have visitors, home health aides, or essential home services (constuction, internet, phone) are left without a proper parking alternative. Night shift workers, who are already operating on unusual schedules, are unjustly hindered by this ruling in their quest for a suitable place to park during the day.
Additionally, this restrictive ordinance adversely affects the elderly and disabled members of our community. Home health aides, friends, and family members who often provide necessary care and supervision, lack convenient and close parking options to check on their loved ones.
According to the American Community Survey data, approximately 35% of U.S. households own more than one car. Apply this statistic to our local community, and this ordinance arguably affects a third, if not more, of our residents. Clearly, it's time to reconsider this rule.
With this petition, we kindly urge the city council to reevaluate the existing swale parking ordinance, in light of its impact on a significant portion of our community. Remember, the purpose of an ordinance is to maintain the welfare of the community, not to disrupt the lives of its residents.
It's time to lift the burden. Help us by signing this petition to remove these outdated and restrictive parking regulations. Let's work together to foster a community that is understanding and adjustable to the needs of its residents.
