The Issue

I have been a steady follower of the Sitka High School sports, especially the cheer team. What I've observed is inconsistent with the expected standard of leadership for young women in sport. The current coaching, under [Redacted], is characterized by constant, harmful critiques and a distinct lack of action when individuals falter or the team underperforms.

These comments erode the self-confidence of the young cheerleaders, subsequently affecting their performance and passion for the sport. It's heartbreaking to witness a coach whom, instead of inspiring growth, actively discourages young team members by asserting they are not up to par.

Indeed, what hurts the most is that this authoritative figure watches on, without offering the necessary coaching, when these young girls stumble or drop their routines. A coach's role is not merely to lead but also to nurture and encourage improvement. It is clear that the prevailing attitude does not match these requirements.

We must advocate for a more nurturing, positive, and effective leadership to ensure our cheer team can thrive. This begins with relieving [Redacted] from coaching duties. By doing this, we send a strong message in favor of positive and efficient coaching methods that promote growth, self-confidence, and respect towards our cheer team.

This issue is not just important to me but also to every young girl at Sitka High School who dreams of giving her best in the cheer team. Together, let's make a change for their future. Sign the petition today.
