Remove Queermisic Billboard Spreading False Information

Remove Queermisic Billboard Spreading False Information
The Issue
As a queer, transgender individual, I am deeply disturbed and disgusted by the presence of an incredibly transmisic and homomisic (from Ancient Greek μῖσος (mîsos, “hatred”) or μῑσέω (mīséō, “to hate”)) billboard that stands over the Nashville highway. This billboard brazenly claims false information that LGBTQIA+ people are groomers & pedophiles and that teaching about the LGBTQIA+ community in school is grooming. This hateful message not only perpetuates harmful stereotypes that have been repeatedly unproven, but also puts the lives and well-being of LGBTQIA+ individuals at risk. We know the truth. It is disheartening to see such a public display of false hate speech that further marginalizes an already vulnerable community, particularly because it empowers others who hate the LGBTQIA+ community to act on it. The longer it stays up, the more emboldened they feel, and the more LGBTQIA+ lives are lost.
It is crucial to address this issue because it goes beyond personal beliefs or opinions; it directly impacts the mental health, safety, and rights of LGBTQIA+ individuals in Nashville and around the USA. The presence of this billboard sends a dangerous message to society that perpetuates discrimination and violence against LGBTQIA+ people, and this isn't the only one in the nation by far. Start with one, then we'll tackle the rest.
To support our cause for removing this offensive billboard from public view, we must rely on accurate facts and statistics:
1. According to reputable studies conducted by organizations like The Trevor Project (source: www.thetrevorproject.org LGBTQ+ youth face higher rates of bullying, harassment, depression, anxiety disorders, self-harm behaviors such as suicide ideation or attempts when compared to their heterosexual peers.
2. Research published in Pediatrics (source: Pediatrics Journal) has shown that supportive environments for LGBTQ+ youth significantly reduce their risk for suicide attempts.
3. The American Psychological Association (APA) affirms that homosexuality is not a mental disorder (source: APA official website). Such false claims can lead to stigmatization and harm towards individuals within the LGBTQ+ community.
By removing this transmisic and homomisic billboard from its current location over Nashville's highway:
1. We can promote a safer and more inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ individuals, reducing the risk of discrimination, harassment, and violence.
2. We can send a message that false information and hate speech have no place in our community.
3. We can foster understanding and acceptance by promoting accurate education about LGBTQ+ rights, health, and history in schools.
Let us come together as a community to stand against hate speech that perpetuates harmful stereotypes about LGBTQIA+ people. Sign this petition to demand the immediate removal of this transmisic and homomisic billboard from its current location over the Nashville highway.
Together, we can create a society where all individuals are treated with dignity, respect, and equality regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
