The Issue

My children attend Rock Spring Elementary School, and over the past couple of years, their education has suffered immensely due to the leadership of Principal Julie Mosley. Numerous dedicated teachers have resigned since her appointment, causing disruption and instability in the classrooms. These resignations are not just numbers; they represent a significant loss in teaching talent and stability for our children. The vacated positions lead to a detrimental environment where retaining qualified educators becomes increasingly challenging.

The high turnover rate among staff under her leadership is unprecedented. This environment has not only impacted the teaching quality but has also affected the morale of the remaining staff and students. A school should be a safe space where children are inspired and motivated to learn, not a place of constant upheaval and uncertainty.

Statistics from educational research show that high staff turnover negatively affects student performance and school culture. Schools function best when there is consistent leadership and a supportive environment for both teachers and students. We need a principal who can provide this stability and foster a positive and enriching learning environment.

We have the power to give our children the education they deserve. It's time we stand up for their right to learn in a nurturing and stable environment by addressing the root cause of these issues. Join me in calling for the removal of Principal Julie Mosley to ensure a brighter, more stable future for Rock Spring Elementary School and its students. Please sign this petition to make our voices heard.

I’m appreciative to you and other parents sharing this information/ concerns with me. As a board member, I accept all concerns with great respect. However, according to the state of Georgia, board members do not oversee the daily operations of the school day. The Henry County Board of Education members only have one employee and that is the superintendent. So, as I continue to explain our duties as board members, we are not allowed to overstep our boundaries when it comes to employees of the district. The superintendent has the authority to bring applicants to the board for hire. He also has the authority to shift employees as needed without board members' approval. If I can be of any more assistance, feel free to give me a call at (470) 234-1497. Kindly, share my contact number with others with the same concern. I will be glad to speak with them as well. Again, appreciative for you sharing your concern. Annette Edwards, Ed.S Vice Chair HCBOE District 2
