Remove Peter Tatchell from appearing on GB News
Remove Peter Tatchell from appearing on GB News
The Issue
I have been an avid supporter of GB News since its inception. I've appreciated the channel as a place that respects diversity of opinions and represents many voices that often go unheard on mainstream media. However, recent events have tested my loyalty to this channel. Peter Tatchell, a frequent guest on GB News, posted a statement on 'X' platform that can only be described as a disgrace. He labeled the recently murdered former MP, Ann Widdecombe, a bigot due to her opposition to LGBTQ+ rights. To speak ill of a deceased person, regardless of their views, is simply unacceptable.
Although Peter Tatchell has since apologised for his comments, it seems evident that this apology was merely a reaction to the overwhelming backlash that he faced. It did not seem genuine or heartfelt, and thus, it should not be enough to absolve him of his contemptible words. Allowing him to continue to appear on GB News sends the wrong message to viewers and tarnishes the reputation of a channel that I respect immensely.
Our beloved channel has the power and responsibility to maintain its standards and uphold the values it represents. Allowing someone who shows blatant disrespect is not in alignment with those values. By removing Peter Tatchell from your programming, GB News would demonstrate that while it is a channel open to diverse views, it holds its contributors to a standard of decency and respect even in disagreement.
Let's urge GB News to act now. By doing so, GB News would not only retain the trust and respect of its current viewer base but will also set a precedent that our media platforms cannot be tarnished by those who disrespect common decency.
I truly believe there is massive support among you, the viewers, who share this sentiment. Let us make our voices heard for the sanctity of a channel that ought to reflect our values of respect and integrity. Please sign this petition to ban Peter Tatchell from GB News and reaffirm our commitment to a respectful discourse on our media platforms.
