Yet, the Optus name currently adorning it stands in stark contrast to the values we hold dear due to their recent failures that have endangered public safety.

In recent instances, Optus has demonstrated gross negligence, most alarmingly with the catastrophic failure of the 000 emergency call system. This failure not only compromised the safety of thousands but has led to tragic outcomes, including the loss of lives. Such disregard for public welfare is unacceptable and should not be rewarded with the honour of having their name associated with a community landmark.

In Western Australia, where community spirit is strong, we cannot afford to ignore the ramifications of maintaining a partnership with a corporation that has shown blatant disregard for human life and community safety. Optus’ actions have struck the heart of public trust and failed to meet the standards expected of corporations enjoying public privilege.

We propose a rebranding of our stadium to a name that reflects the resilience and unity of our community, free from the shadow cast by Optus' recent failures. There are many distinguished individuals, community leaders, and historical icons from Western Australia whose names would bring pride and justice to the stadium.
