Remove Nina Kraviz from Movement Festival 2025 Lineup
The Issue
As a member of the Ukrainian community in Detroit, I am deeply concerned about the decision to invite Nina Kraviz to perform at the Movement festival in our city. Her open support of Vladimir Putin and her failure to denounce the war in Ukraine are actions that resonate negatively with many of us here, especially those with personal ties to the ongoing conflict. In a city as diverse and culturally rich as Detroit, offering a platform to an artist who has not only shown indifference but tacit approval of a regime at war with Ukraine is unacceptable.
Nina Kraviz has been vocal about her support for Putin's policies, which include aggressive and violent actions against Ukraine. Given the ongoing war and the immense suffering it has caused, the community must take a stand against such sentiments. The Movement festival, known for its celebration of cultural and musical diversity, should not associate itself with individuals who support oppressive regimes. Doing so would alienate a significant portion of its audience, including many loyal fans from the Ukrainian community.
Paxahau, the organizer of the Movement festival, has the opportunity to make a bold statement by excluding Nina Kraviz from their lineup. By prioritizing inclusivity and standing in solidarity with those affected by the war, they can demonstrate their commitment to promoting peace and unity through music. We urge Paxahau to consider the values that Movement has upheld over the years and the impact of their decisions on their diverse fan base.
Music has the power to unify us all, and the Movement festival has long been a beacon of diversity and solidarity in Detroit. To preserve its integrity and ensure it remains a safe and welcoming space for everyone, especially those affected by global conflicts, we must make choices that reflect our collective values. By not welcoming artists who support regimes responsible for violence and oppression, we fortify the festival's legacy as a true celebration of unity.
Sign this petition to urge Paxahau and the Movement festival to act decisively against supporting artists with regressive and harmful views. Together, we can ensure that the Movement festival remains a place of peace, love, and celebration for everyone in our community, regardless of their background or beliefs.
