Last weekend something pretty special happened at Nanarup.
Around 170 people came together to “Line the Lagoon”, standing along the edge of the lagoon and in the water to show that this place matters to our community. It was a powerful moment. Not because of noise or confrontation, but because of the simple act of people turning up and standing together.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this campaign so far.
Whether you have signed the petition, shared information, had conversations with neighbours and friends, written to representatives, or come along to events, your involvement is helping keep this issue visible and moving forward.
This community is not opposing water security.
We understand that Albany and the Great Southern need long-term water planning. What we are asking for is something very reasonable:
a fair, transparent and appropriate site selection process, supported by genuine community engagement.
So far, many people in the community still feel they have not seen the level of transparency or engagement that such an important decision deserves. Major infrastructure decisions that affect our coastline, environment and community should be made carefully, openly and with the benefit of full information.
The turnout at Line the Lagoon shows how deeply people care about this place and about getting the process right.
Please continue to help keep the momentum going.
You can do that by:
- Continuing conversations with others in the community
- Sharing information and updates
- Staying engaged with the process as it unfolds
- Encouraging others to learn more and add their voice
Thank you again for standing with Nanarup and for supporting a fair and transparent process for Albany’s future water planning.
Together, we are showing that community voices matter.
