Remove Naheed Nenshi as leader of Alberta NDP
The Issue
Hey Alberta NDP...it's time you consider a leadership review and give your voting base a real option to support. Naheed is not a progressive. He is a Liberal. We already have a fascist liberal in office right now bulldozing over the rights and futures of Albertans. Understand that she will likely remain in office running roughshod until you provide a true option that represents the majority of Albertans. Left to Right...we all want the same thing: healthy food/water/air, stable environment, affordable food and housing, ability to survive well with time and resources for recreation after work. We Albertans care about each other and we care about people. It's time you provide us a leader who shares those same values. Elitism and fascism isn't going to cut it!! And if you were paying attention you would notice...the entire world is saying the same thing. Centrism is a forever losing strategy. You either stand for what is right or you take a hike. The people say "no more".

WHAT IS AT ISSUE?
The official opposition party in Alberta is currently being led by a person who is comfortable rubbing elbows with an official representative of a nation currently found to be committing genocide, apartheid, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. This is the latest extreme misstep by Naheed Nenshi as the leader of the Alberta NDP. Recently he has given his full support for the West Coast pipeline project that will likely end up being 100% taxpayer funded, cut through 9-11 First Nation Reserves impacting the traditional territories of 100+ indigenous communities, and come at a time when the world market for oil is dropping as populations are naturally trending towards renewable energy sources and electric options. Not to mention the world as a whole are facing an apocalyptic future due entirely to climate change and extreme pollution. There have been several polls over the last few years of Albertans, Canadians, and the Globe that show a majority of the human population have concern for climate change and government inaction on that front....and those numbers of concerned humans are growing fast with every year. Albertans are shown to be more united than they would have us believe on this topic. We care about the environment, we care about our futures, and we love our natural province. So why is the leader of the supposed progressive party giddy with glee over yet another expensive pipeline and more pollution?? Also...why has Naheed been so deafeningly silent about the several AI data center projects being rammed down our throats by the sitting Alberta government, bypassing environmental protections or consultations? These AI data centers, if they are not stopped, will likely be the end to our communities' health and well being. The findings coming up from the AI data centers already built and running south of the border paint a very bleak picture for all of us: permanently polluted drinking water, dry lakes and river beds, dead bees, extreme noise pollution, extreme heat, death or mass exodus of all wildlife in surrounding areas, destruction of entire ecosystems. No more camping, fishing, swimming, hiking for us I guess!
Who is Naheed in the end? He was long thought to be an effective voice of reason and community compassion in the political sphere. He seemed to stand strong in Calgary against provincial political theatrics and fought for the people of Calgary. In his days as the mayor he showed he cared about people both locally and globally. It was his courageous progressive stances that made him stand out and gain popularity with a people long starved for true leadership. Not just in Calgary. All over the province we watched him work...and were both proud and envious. So what changed? Was he always just a fledgling Liberal who eventually shed his progressive down to become the steadfast corporatist elitist he is showing himself to be now? Rubbing elbows with fascists and genocidaires? Dancing the jig whenever there is an opportunity to pollute and add fire to a burning planet? No thanks. We already have one of those running the Legislature. We need change.
WHY BEING FRIENDLY WITH ISRAEL IS HORRIBLE:
The United Nations stated in their most recent report published in 2025: "The Commission finds that Israel is responsible for the commission of Genocide in Gaza." Organizations that also state Israel is committing genocide are as follows: International Association of Genocide Scholars, Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention, Genocide Watch, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Doctors Without Borders, and B'Tselem. On top of this Israel is currently under investigation by both the International Criminal Court (ICC) and International Court of Justice (ICJ) for war crimes and crimes against humanity. There are currently active warrants out for the arrest of Benjamin Netanyahu, Bezalel Smotrich, Yoav Gallant and more arrest warrants are apparently being prepared for those same individuals including Itamar Ben-Gvir on new charges.
Isreal's crimes against humanity include but are not limited to:
EXTERMINATION & MURDER: starvation and deprivation of material needs to sustain life; destroying ability to grow food; purposefully polluting water sources; destroying/bombing civilian infrastructure so there is severely limited or no access to clean water, electricity, or sanitation; destroying hospitals; targeting healthcare workers; denying access to healthcare abroad; targeting aid workers; denying food and aid to be delivered to the civilian population; denying access to healthcare abroad for the critically ill; shooting/bombing civilians when they attempt to fish along their own coastline; target shooting infants and children; repeatedly using artillery-fired white phosphorous munitions over civilian homes and crowds;
ECOCIDE: release of raw sewage to contaminate land and water and to proliferate disease; bulldozing orchards and crops; destroying entire forests; contaminating soils with high concentrations of phosphorous; killing or stealing herds of animals; extreme air/water/land pollution from fires, dust, and released aerosolized toxic chemicals and fine particulates from military weaponry; targeted killing of farmers and agriculture experts;
IMPRISONMENT, TORTURE & RAPE: detaining civilians as young as 3 without charge or legal representation for indefinite periods of time; recorded and reported instances of brutal sexual assault and rape of detainees; recorded and reported instances of brutal torture and deprivation of detainees; recorded and reported instances of murder of detainees; multiple unexplained disappearances of detained civilians; recorded and reported instances of indignities committed to detained dead bodies or illegally exhumed remains;
CONCLUSION:
Knowing all of this and coupling it with the fact that Alberta is a multicultural landscape....how can you justify making nice with an Israeli official? The world has been very loud...we don't support genocide and we don't support apartheid. It speaks to the core of a person when they have no qualms making "nice" with genocidaires. This is no small thing and like thousands of politicians around the world have discovered: is truly the thing that will usher in the end of the Alberta NDP if they do not respond appropriately.
LEADERSHIP REVIEW AND CHANGE OR OUT YOU GO! There is no middle ground.
