Remove Mayra Reyes from the East Aurora School Board

Remove Mayra Reyes from the East Aurora School Board
The Issue
The East Aurora School District 131 prides itself on being a vibrant and diverse community, home to individuals from a broad range of racial and cultural backgrounds. This diversity is one of our strongest assets, fostering an enriching educational environment for all students. However, recent events have threatened to undermine these values, demanding immediate attention and action from our School Board.
Board member Mayra Reyes has made racially insensitive remarks and demonstrated discriminatory behavior that is utterly incompatible with the values we hold dear in our community. Such attitudes have no place in any educational institution, let alone in a leadership position within our School District.
Racial insensitivity and discrimination are detrimental to creating a safe and inclusive learning environment. They communicate a message that is contrary to what education stands for: equality, respect, and unity. Allowing these views to persist within our School Board undermines our commitment to support and celebrate diversity.
The role of a School Board member is not only to govern but to serve as a role model to the students and the broader community. A board member who makes racial remarks fails to meet these crucial standards. We believe the continuation of Mayra Reyes in this position sends the wrong message to both our students and other leaders within our district.
We urge the Board of Education of East Aurora School District 131 to take decisive action by removing Mayra Reyes from her post. This act is essential to demonstrate our collective stand against discrimination and our unwavering commitment to fostering a school environment that is supportive and respectful of all.
By signing this petition, you are helping protect the integrity and values of our educational community. Let's send a clear message that racial bias and discrimination will not be tolerated in East Aurora. Please sign and help us create a better tomorrow for our students and our community.
