Remove London Plane Trees Menace in Claremont business districts

The issue

Have you also been suffering from adverse effects of London Plane Trees ?

Then please join us in signing this petition requesting the Town of Claremont to take immediate action, as the coming of Spring will see inordinate amount of allergic pollen released in the air and inendate your living and work space and affect your health and productivity.

Adverse Effects of London Plane Trees in Claremont business district namely BayView Terrace and St Quentin Streets which has for years caused much productivity to be lost by the business owners and their staff and patrons avoiding the menace of the Pollen droppings year round and leaves causing public danger and businesses nightmare.

We request that the Town of Claremont take action in replacing these tree as done by Melbourne City too.

Melbourne City Council will remove 65 per cent of the city's London plane trees by 2040. The trees are known to cause allergic reactions in some people. The replacement trees will be a mixture of native and international species

Exposure to London tree pollen may induce allergic symptoms like rhinitis, conjunctivitis), and asthma, head ache , migraine, sneezing, tearing and ill health and depression being unable to work and live under the menace of these trees.

London plane trees release spores which trigger allergic reactions and tree surgeons climbing these trees or collecting trimmed branches on the ground can suffer from streaming eyes and sore throats. It is not known how old a London plane may become because none is known to have died of old age.

Yet the Town of Claremont is adding more and more of them, despite many years of complaint by so many.

To be replaced with :

The London plane tree, a divisive staple of many Australian city streetscapes, will be gradually removed from Melbourne's central business district and replaced with species resistant to climate change such as Moreton Bay figs, jacarandas and sweet gums.

Do London plane trees have deep roots?

Its roots are so tough and aggressive, that it can lift sidewalks and curbs, invade sewer pipes, and crack building foundations. But whose fault is that, the tree's or the people who planted them there? The London Plane has been a popular urban tree for quite some time, and was almost over planted.

Please sign this petition for the Town of Claremont to remove the menace of these health hazards.
