Remove Linda McMahon’s Name from Sacred Heart University Buildings and Platforms

Remove Linda McMahon’s Name from Sacred Heart University Buildings and Platforms
The Issue
To the Administration of Sacred Heart University, the Board of Trustees, Faculty, Staff, Students, and Alumni,
We, the undersigned, call for the immediate removal of Linda McMahon’s name from all Sacred Heart University buildings, online platforms, and associated materials. As the current head of the U.S. Department of Education, McMahon is actively overseeing its dismantling, implementing mass layoffs, and stripping essential services that help marginalized students succeed. It is unconscionable for our university to continue honoring an individual whose actions directly threaten the values and mission of this institution.
Linda McMahon, a noted political figure, co-founder and former CEO of WWE, has been at the center of controversy on numerous social issues, creating a schism within the university community. Her political stance runs counter to the principles of inclusivity, diversity, and respectful dialogue—values that Sacred Heart University claims to prioritize. Furthermore, her actions as the leader of the Department of Education threaten federal funding that makes up approximately 14% of what local governments cannot provide—funding that is critical not just for K-12 schools but also for colleges and universities like ours. Her efforts to weaken this support system directly oppose the success and accessibility of education.
By continuing to display her name on university buildings and platforms, Sacred Heart University is continuously endorsing her destructive policies. It is a mockery of the university’s mission to honor someone whose work undermines educational access and equity. To preserve the university’s reputation as a beacon of wisdom, enlightenment, and progressive thought, we implore Sacred Heart to take immediate action and remove her name from all university properties and online platforms.
Sign this petition to uphold the values of respect, diversity, and equality at Sacred Heart University.
