REMOVE LEDCOR AS HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE CONTRACTOR

REMOVE LEDCOR AS HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE CONTRACTOR
The Issue
Canadian tax payers have the right to feel safe on reasonably maintained winter highways. Since Ledcor took over the contract from Laprairie, specifically in sections CMA508 & CMA504 highway 43 & 947 from Whitecourt to Grande Prairie the highway conditions have become significantly more dangerous and very poorly maintained.
We feel as though Ledcor group is not adequately maintaining our highways to Alberta Transportations highway maintenance standards which are listed on page (3-5) of the highway maintenance guidelines and level of service Manuel found on the Alberta Transportation website.
If Ledcor remains the contract holder we fear that we will see an above average increase in fatalities and motor vehicle accidents on these dangerous killer highways. Travelling on the highways is not a privilege but a right and for most of us a necessity to commute back and forth to work each day. We would argue that their decision to lay off multiple workers and supervisory role employees at the beginning of their first winter season in these sections leaving these areas very understaffed and under supervised proves with certainly the poor judgment and lack of competency of their dysfunctional upper management team.
We want Ledcor to be accountable for their lack of care, dedication, and ability to maintain our highways to the very basic standards set by Alberta Transportation and the complete and total disregard for their obligation and responsibility to plow and maintain highway 947.
I am asking for signatures from those in agreement to these claims which will then be forwarded to Alberta Transportation in hopes for immediate and necessary change.
