Remove Large Dirt Mound + Fortress of Trees on Vineyard in Lakeview Heights, West Kelowna

Remove Large Dirt Mound + Fortress of Trees on Vineyard in Lakeview Heights, West Kelowna
The Issue
The unfinished residential development at 3100 Thacker Drive has started landscaping around the Vineyard, with a strategy that should be concerning to everyone in West Kelowna.
Without neighbourhood or community approval, they’ve started moving forward with planting a dense forest of trees on the corner of Thacker Dr & Montigny Rd, they’ve built a 10ft high mound of dirt + planted 30ft Trees on top, as well as started building a 20ft – 30ft wall of trees that surrounds the vineyard property line.
The results have been catastrophic to the community. The large, beautiful vineyard that the community has enjoyed for decades, is on the verge of being completely blocked by a fortress of unacceptably tall trees and dirt. The aim of the landscaping design is to completely block the neighborhood from seeing the property, vineyard, and lake view. Which is why in specific sections there are taller trees that have been strategically planted in front of homes to completely block them.
Everyone in the surrounding neighbourhood is completely heartbroken.
IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT ALR LAND:
- Only 5% of the land in BC is protected by the Agriculture Land Reserve. Including this property.
- One of the core values of the Agriculture Land Reserve (as stated on website) is to benefit the community by “Maintaining rural character and lifestyle”.
THE BIGGER PROBLEM:
If this landscaping design continues as planned, it sets the precedent for other Developments in Lakeview Heights to follow suit. The breathtaking beauty of the open vineyards and stunning views of lake Okanagan will turn into a Fortress of Trees, Large Fences and Dirt Mounds that completely block the natural beauty of the valley.
Imagine driving down Boucherie Rd and seeing walls of trees & large fences blocking the vineyards & lake. That’s what’s at risk if we allow what’s taking place at 3100 Thacker Drive to be completed.
THE SOLUTION:
Everyone in Lakeview Heights, we urgently need your help!
The new homeowner & developers of this project must be held accountable and restore the Vineyard to its natural state. The way it was before they obstructed the community landscape in Lakeview Heights. No forest of trees, no dirt mounds, no large fences and no 20ft trees that block the property!
It’s time the Lakeview Heights Community joins together to prevent the destruction of our community values and natural beauty of the valley.
PLEASE SIGN OUR COMMUNITY PETITION!
By Signing this petition, you agree to show your support for restoring the Vineyard to it’s natural state with the IMMEDIATE removal of the excessively high mound of dirt, 30ft tall trees, as well as the wall of trees that surrounds the Vineyard at 3100 Thacker Drive. In addition, if they move forward with building a fenced wall around the property, it must fit with the open & unobstructed chain link fence lines, that currently exists everywhere in the surrounding vineyards & orchards.
Please help us fight for our amazing & beautiful community!
