The Issue

The recent appointment of Kezia Dugdale as Chair of Stonewall UK is deeply troubling for those of us committed to upholding the rights and dignity of transgender people.

One of Dugdale's first public statements after her appointment was to express support for J.K. Rowling, a figure notorious for creating anti-trans propaganda and for her financial support of organisations that exist to  promote discrimination against transgender people. This is a step back in the fight for equality and dignity for all.

I am personally distressed by this appointment, given that Stonewall's mission is supposed to be to to promote equality and human rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people, and my firm belief that the "rainbow alliance" is stronger together. Stonewall's credibility and capabilities can only grow stronger through consistent and authentic support for ALL members of the LGBTQ+ community --  particularly at a time when trans people face increasing levels of abuse, intimidation, violence, and state-sponsored discrimination.

By aligning with someone who has openly supported rhetoric that threatens and  harms trans people, Dugadale is  diluting Stonewall's message and is losing the trust of those who need their voices amplified at this critical juncture. We cannot let Stonewall's mission be compromised by its leadership.

I urge you to join me in calling for the removal of Kezia Dugdale from her position as Chair of Stonewall UK. This isn't just about disagreement with a personal stance; it's about the very fabric of Stonewall's values and its commitment to protect every letter in LGBT+.

Dugdale's removal is an urgent step to ensure that Stonewall remains a bastion of hope, respect, and authentic advocacy for all who remain marginalized and oppressed due to their gender identity.

Please sign this petition to emphasize your support for a Stonewall UK leadership that truly embodies the principles of equality and unwavering support for all members of our community. Together, we can make a loud and clear statement that trans rights are human rights, and they deserve to be fiercely protected by any organization claiming to fight for equality. Sign now, make your voice heard, and be part of the change we all need to see.
