I am writing this petition out of deep concern and personal experience regarding the current state of the Temecula Valley High School (TVHS) football team. We have witnessed an exodus of 12 fantastic players from our program, who chose to head to Great Oak, Vista, Mesa, and Chaparral High Schools. The root of the issue lies in the leadership of our current head coach, John Bonaventura.

John Bonaventura waives his own flag more than he motivates and inspires our student-athletes. The essence of a coach is to lift their team, to see potential and nurture it, and to be a beacon of support and encouragement. Instead, our children are met with berating remarks and belittling comments. This atmosphere is not only discouraging but detrimental to the passion and potential of these young athletes.

In a community that has, for years, supported and cheered for its high school football team, it is disheartening to witness our children stressed and lacking the drive and enjoyment that comes with playing sports. The stories our children share about being under Coach Bonaventura reflect a pattern that needs immediate addressing. The volunteers, parents, students, fans and even other coaches are tired of the harassment and abuse of this coach.

We wish to see a thriving, encouraging, and positive environment within the TVHS football program—one that will stop driving our talent away. Another coach who can devote themselves to the wellbeing and development of our athletes, rather than focusing on self-recognition is imperative for the team's success and the athletes' personal growth.

For the future of TVHS football and our children's happiness, we call for the removal of John Bonaventura from his current position as head coach. We urge the school administration to make a change that brings positive transformation to our beloved football program.

Our school is not a losing school. Look at our wrestling program as an example of how high we can reach when our athletes are motivated. The wrestling coaches are some of the most respected individuals in the State of California. The teammates strive for the recognition and want to work hard to make the coaches proud of them. Leading by example, pushing the students to achieve greatness is a characteristic that is lacking from John Bonaventura and it is not in question. His negativity is the rust that is eating away at the framework of our program.
