The Issue

I have been a victim of Instagram's flawed AI moderation system. I lost my first account due to hacking, and I put in a lot of effort to build my second account from the ground up. This account was not just a profile; it was a hub for me to connect and reconnect with friends and family, especially since I can't see them often. Tragically, due to Instagram's AI system, this connection has been severed, and I might never use the app to communicate with my loved ones again. Instagram's artificial intelligence currently reports and disables accounts without valid reasons. Countless users, like myself, have seen their accounts dismantled after posting content that should in no way violate community guidelines. It's disheartening to witness an app that was once a platform for building memories now become a place of uncertain permanence, where cherished photos, important conversations, and digital memories can vanish in an instant. A place that fails to discern between bots and real users. Statistics reveal increasing dissatisfaction with Instagram's AI moderation, with numerous reports of erroneous account disabling. This issue is further compounded by a lack of human oversight and an appeals process that often feels dismissive. Instagram needs significant reforms to its moderation practices. First, Instagram must revise its AI protocol to accurately distinguish genuine user engagement from potential spam or harmful activity. Second, they should enhance user protection against unjustified account closures by incorporating human review in moderation decisions. Lastly, a more transparent and empathetic appeals process should be established, providing users a fair opportunity to reclaim their accounts free of charge, and should automatically recover accounts associated with the users information, provided better links for appeals to be approved, questions for what exactly their account was disabled for and should be allowed use of social media especially if one of the issues were that they were wrongfully accused for CSE which is the most severe case majority of users have been wrongfully disabled for. By signing this petition, you are joining a movement to ensure Instagram returns to its roots — as a safe, reliable place for all users. It's time for Instagram to care about its community and provide the support and respect its users deserve. Sign this petition to advocate for better AI solutions and a more user-friendly environment. Official list of demands include: Reduce flags and ai security, Listen to the reports we actually give out, Provide a phone number to whom we may be able to reach out to in these situations and to also explain our reason and issue, Recovery of accounts for all users affected falsely which also include late bans from the past years, especially for CSE bans, No limit to how many appeals we can use and submit, Live assistance, Removal of Ai use, Accessibility support and contact.
