Remove Hugh Brasher as London Marathon Director

The Issue

As a biological woman, I am incredibly disturbed to hear that the organiser of the London Marathon has declared he is above the law and will refuse to comply with UK law, in regards to the Gender Equality Act. Hugh Brasher and people like him invalidate women's existence, support the eradication of women's groups and safe spaces, and want to set back the progress of gender equality by a hundred years, perpetuating sexism and gender bias.

Hugh Brasher is the race director for one of the world's most prestigious marathons, yet his apparent disregard for legal standards and gender equality is alarming and unacceptable. The London Marathon has a powerful platform and serves as a beacon of sport and unity. With an individual at the helm who refuses to acknowledge and act within the legal frameworks designed to protect women and ensure equality, it sends the wrong message to participants, supporters, and the global community.

UK's Gender Equality Act was established to promote gender equality and fairness. Ignoring or openly defying this legislation is not just a personal failure on Brasher's part but a failure to uphold the ideals of fairness, respect, and inclusivity that the London Marathon should embody. Women have the right to participate in these events knowing they are respected and valued as equal participants. We should not stand for any indication that these rights can be dismissed or undermined by those in positions of power.

Many women train diligently to participate in such events, facing numerous obstacles within the sport itself. They deserve an environment where they are acknowledged and respected according to both moral and legal standards. The presence of a director who disenfranchises women undermines their efforts and the spirit of the marathon.

It’s critical to have leadership that not only respects the law but also champions equality and the rightful place of women in all areas, including sports. It's time for new leadership at the London Marathon, leadership that embraces these values and acts as a role model for others in the sporting world.

Demand that Hugh Brasher is removed from his position as race director to send a clear message that the London Marathon supports gender equality and upholds the laws protecting it. Sign this petition to advocate for fairness, equality, and respect for all participants, regardless of gender.
