When tragedy strikes close to home, it's hard not to take action. A man, Marcellus Scott Williams, was convicted for a crime he did not commit and subsequently faced the ultimate, irreversible punishment, execution. Much of this can be traced back to the incumbent Governor Mike Parson, whose oversight of our justice system has proven flawed and tragic.

If Marcellus' case has taught us anything, it is that injustice remains deeply rooted in our systems, even in the face of compelling evidence suggesting innocence. Marcellus' story is but one of the many examples of inocent lives caught in the crossfire of a flawed judicial system.

This is why we call for the removal of Gov. Mike Parson from the office. His guidance thus far has led to unjust outcomes that cannot be allowed to continue. We also urged the Commission on Retirement, Removal, and Discipline of Missouri to dismantle the Missouri Supreme Court, which permitted this miscarriage of justice.

We are reminded all too often that once justice has been carried out, it cannot be undone. It is time to reform the system that made such a tragic mistake possible. Marcellus' legacy must be a motivator for change, not a stark reminder of our system's flaws.
