remove generative artificial intelligence from schools.

remove generative artificial intelligence from schools.
The Issue
as a current high school junior, and artist, I have had AI practically shoved down my throat since 2022. now, only 3 years later, my teachers are forced to give us a presentation on it, and how us students have to use it. and there’s a mandatory tech agreement. we were forced to agree with the terms of the AI. even though I don’t agree with this in the slightest. During the presentation they talked about generative AI being used for brainstorming, generating images, and artistic motifs for projects. As an artist and writer this is repulsive. Not only is this being forced on me against my will, but it is something that steals art, writing, and photography. it takes human art, and the soul that a human being puts into said artistry and copies it. Ai shouldn’t be in public usage, let alone in the hands of minors. MIT studies have shown its bad for our Brain and reactivity, ai uses immense amounts of water, the ai data centers have such an exothermic effect (releasing heat) that they actively heat up the environment around then by multiple degrees. Which sounds like a small difference, but a 71-degree day, is manageable, yet a 76-degree day is starting to get too hot to handle. The same goes for that of data centers.
I am an artist. I draw, I sculpt, I paint, I write, I sing in a choir, I have hobbies in liminal photography, and I make digital art too. If I were to get a job in my artistry, how long would it be until id be making less money than AI? I have been living on this earth for 16 years. I’ve been honing my skills in art for almost that long as well. Generative ai, has done the same in less than five years. Not only is that a slap in the face to my hard work, but who is all the revenue from the “art” that ai makes going to? Certainly not the artist who had all of their art scraped from the internet to train the models to copy their art styles. No, it’s tech million and billionaires. Who didn’t do a lick of the work themselves. I don’t like the argument of eat the rich, but generative ai is a true example of people who have more money than sense being greedy. Whatever art I have posted online, on different websites during my childhood, I guarantee that all of it has been scrubbed. It’s been mashed up and fed to AI. I’m not getting paid for that. But that my work, that’s been used to allow this ai to be able to make deepfakes. The 9-year-old prodigy who posted their art on deviant art. Are they being paid? Are the little old ladies who have been painting all their lives been paid? Are the freelance workers, who sell their art to pay rent and live, are they paid? The answer is no. poet, painter, writer, no matter the art, they haven’t been reimbursed for the theft and afterward constant usage of their art in ai databases.
Ai is already damaging public trust, in propaganda, in the news, I’ve even seen entire car ads done in ai. If an ad is done entirely in ai, how am I supposed to trust that the product I buy is anywhere near the scale and detail of the ad? Within the next year, there will be entire accounts on Facebook, and Instagram, curated, run by, and generated by ai. Mimics of people that don’t even exist. More and more jobs will be taken. Over time many jobs will obsoleted, and others may or may not open. Which wouldn’t be an issue if the people making money off of ai were to spread the money around for the people losing jobs but that is highly unlikely.
