The Issue

In Tarrant County, Texas, our privacy and freedoms are under threat from the installation of flock cameras. As a resident deeply committed to preserving our civil liberties, I am concerned about the increased use of surveillance technologies that were implemented without a vote or adequate community consultation. These cameras, designed to monitor and capture images of our vehicles, present a significant risk to the privacy and safety of law-abiding citizens.

The widespread deployment of these cameras, capable of scanning thousands of license plates every day, amounts to unwarranted mass surveillance. According to studies, such surveillance tools often do not lead to a substantial reduction in crime, but rather contribute to an invasive collection of personal data. This data may be unjustly accessed, hacked, or used against innocent residents who simply wish to go about their daily lives without being watched around the clock.

Moreover, the potential for misuse of this technology raises significant concerns. Across the country, there have been instances where surveillance data has been mishandled, leading to erroneous identification and unlawful arrests. We must question whether the benefits of flock cameras truly outweigh the potential for misuse and the erosion of our civil liberties.

In a democratic society, decisions of such magnitude should not be imposed upon citizens without their explicit input and consent. It is imperative that Tarrant County residents are given the opportunity to vote on whether such invasive surveillance methods are acceptable. We demand transparency and accountability in the decision-making process.

We urge the authorities of Tarrant County to immediately halt the use of flock cameras and remove those already installed. Furthermore, we call for a comprehensive review of surveillance policies to ensure they align with the values of freedom, privacy, and democracy that our county stands for.

Join me in urging our leaders to take action against unwanted surveillance. Please sign this petition to protect our privacy and uphold the freedom of every resident in Tarrant County.
