The Issue

I'm deeply concerned and troubled by the installation of Flock cameras in our neighborhoods. While the city's intention is to reduce crime, I have strong reservations about their effectiveness and the privacy issues they raise. These cameras are promoted as tools to combat unlawful activities, yet it's unclear how much they actually contribute to a safer community.

Flock cameras are marketed with promises of security, but the reality is they infringe on our personal freedoms. The continuous surveillance feels like an unwarranted intrusion into our everyday lives. Many residents, including myself, are uncertain about the data collected, how it's used, or even who has access to it. This lack of transparency is alarming and needs immediate attention.

Furthermore, there are studies and reports indicating that constant surveillance does not significantly deter crime. According to a review conducted by the Urban Institute, surveillance technology like cameras hardly has a measurable impact on crime reduction. Instead, they often serve as tools to collect data on citizens without offering real solutions to the root causes of crime.

We need actionable and impactful strategies for crime prevention, such as community policing and restorative justice programs. More emphasis should be placed on building trust and partnerships between law enforcement and the community, rather than relying on invasive technologies that may not yield the desired results.

It is crucial that our voices are heard in this matter, to ensure our community's safety and our right to privacy. I urge city officials to reconsider the use of Flock cameras and explore alternative, community-focused methods to enhance safety and trust within our neighborhood. It is very crucial that we the people voice is heard and these cameras be removed immediately

Join me in demanding the removal of Flock cameras from our streets and advocate for measures that truly respect and protect our community. Please sign this petition to make a difference.
