The Issue

Hello fellow students at St. Vrain Valley School District. We have gotten a new restriction on our iPads where we cannot download apps or change the background/wallpaper. Sign this petition To change the wallpaper setting. We should have the setting back, so we can express our individuality, especially at such a difficult age also, it makes it a lot easier to tell whose iPad is who’s. Just the first day of this new background change two people lost their iPads and couldn’t find them because they didn’t have a different background.

Just so that everyone that is signing this knows, you cannot get in trouble for signing this. If you get in trouble for signing this then tell your principal that they are violating your first amendment rights. Freedom of speech. As  long as you are not spreading it at school then you are free to say and do what you want (as long is with the law).

Feel free to spread this petition around the district. The more the merrier. Just don’t spread it at school.

We, the undersigned, are petitioning the St. Vrain Valley School District to reconsider and revise its policy requiring forced backgrounds for students.

Currently, this requirement makes it so that you are stuck with this red background labeled “Elevated Restrictions”. While we understand the need for security and due diligence, we believe that this policy imposes students not being able to find IPads due to not having a personalized wallpaper. This also shows that we cannot express ourselves through our wallpapers

**Concerns:**

1. **Privacy Issues**: This raises significant concerns about how personal information is handled and protected.

2. **Increased Burden**: The requirement creates an increased difficulty in finding students and teachers iPads due to not having personalized wallpapers for students.

3. **Effectiveness**: There is limited evidence that this policy effectively contributes. Alternative measures could achieve similar or better results with fewer negative impacts.

**Proposed Solution:**

We propose that the St. Vrain Valley School District review and revise the current policy to at lease let us be able to change and personalize our wallpapers. We believe that this adjustment will address our concerns while maintaining the necessary standards for safety and compliance.

We urge the school district to consider our request and engage in a dialogue with the community to find a more effective and equitable solution.
